Code of Conduct - Spectators
At the Wilmington Seahawks Hockey Association Inc. (WSHA), we work to foster a positive, respectful, safe, and development-focused environment for our young athletes. This Spectator Code of Conduct aligns with USA Hockey’s Spectator’s Code of Conduct and the Carolina Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) Spectator Policy, and outlines the expectations for all spectators of WSHA games and practices to ensure that hockey remains a fun, educational, and enriching experience for every participant. By following this code, we collectively uphold our values of sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and teamwork and player development while fostering a love for the game.
Model Good Sportsmanship
- Display, encourage and recognize good sportsmanship and fair play, both on and off the ice.
- Promote respect for the game.
- Cheer good plays of all participants and avoid booing opponents.
Be Respectful
- Treat all players, parents/guardians, coaches, officials, opponents, volunteers, staff members and fellow spectators with respect.
- Do not taunt or disturb other fans.
- Work toward removing physical and verbal abuse in youth sports.
Demonstrate Integrity
- Support the referees and coaches by trusting their judgment and integrity.
- Respect all facilities and equipment provided by WSHA and host rinks.
- Respect locker rooms as private areas for players, coaches and officials.
Encourage Teamwork
- Recognize good teamwork
- Emphasize teamwork over individual performance.
- Enjoy the game together.
Support Player Development and Safety
- Provide positive reinforcement for all players, emphasizing effort and improvement
- Prioritize the physical and emotional safety and well-being of all players.
- Do not throw any items on the ice surface or lean over the glass around the playing area.
Per the CAHA Spectator Policy, any spectator attending a sanctioned USA Hockey event who is removed from the venue by a USA Hockey official, security personnel, facility personnel or WSHA personnel over a period of two consecutive seasons will be subject to mandatory suspension from ALL USA Hockey events for a specified period based on the frequency of the offenses. WSHA will cooperate with CAHA to enforce this policy.
Together, we strive to build a community that celebrates the joy of hockey, fosters the development of life skills, and provides an environment where players feel encouraged, respected, and inspired to grow both as athletes and individuals. Let’s work together to make every moment on and off the ice a memorable one for our young athletes.
