Code of Conduct - Players
Wilmington Junior Seahawks value sportsmanship, respect, integrity, teamwork and player development. That means being kind, respectful, and doing your best every time you’re on or off the ice. These rules help make hockey fun and safe for everyone.
Show Good Sportsmanship
- Win or lose, always be a good sport.
- After the game, shake hands with the other team and tell them good game.
- If a referee makes a call you don’t like, don’t argue. Let the coach handle it.
- Cheer for your teammates and help each other.
- Follow the rules and play fairly.
- Be responsible for how you act and how you play.
- Be nice when you win.
Be Respectful
- Always show respect to your coaches, teammates, other players, referees, volunteers, staff members and spectators.
- No yelling, name-calling, swearing, or rude gestures—ever.
- Always respect other people’s privacy, especially in the locker room.
- Keep locker rooms clean at home and away - don’t leave a mess.
- Be polite and respectful at all rinks, hotels, and restaurants.
- During the national anthem, stand still, be quiet, take off your helmet, and show respect.
Have Integrity/Do the Right Thing
- No bullying, hurting, making fun of or picking on anyone—ever.
- Fighting and hazing are never okay.
- No phones in the locker room.
- Don’t post anything online that’s mean, rude, or hurtful.
- No smoking, vaping, drinking, or using anything that’s not safe or allowed.
- If you see something wrong or unsafe, tell an adult you trust.
Be a Good Teammate
- Be present and pay attention when you're with the team.
- Don’t use your phone during team meetings, or on the bench.
- Attend team events, including off-ice training and team meetings.
Work to Develop Your Skills
- Come to practices and games on time and ready to go.
- Take care of your hockey gear and make sure it’s packed and working.
- Always try your best and work hard to improve your skills.
- Have fun!
What Happens If You Break These Rules?
- If you break a rule, there might be a warning, less time on the ice, or even missing a game.
- If it’s serious, the coaches and the Board will talk to your and/or your Parent/Guardian about what needs to happen.
USA Hockey and Carolina Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) also have rules about how to behave when you play hockey. All of their rules must be followed, but the most important ones are:
- No bullying, harassment or abuse (physical, verbal or online) - ever
- You have to report to them when safety, misconduct or abuse rules are broken
- Respect locker room privacy at all times, including no phones in the locker room
If you have any questions about any of these rules, ask your coach, a parent, or another Junior Seahawks adult you trust. We’re all here to help you.
When you sign this, you promise to follow these rules and help make our team a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and happy to play. You’re also saying that you understand that there may be consequences if you break these rules.
Let’s play hard, have fun, and be great teammates—on and off the ice!
